To An Eleanor Rigby

I posted this follow-up comment yesterday to the person who becomes an 'Eleanor Rigby' after a failed relationship. These verses suggest she needs to stand back and see what's happened and move on with her life.

When love was new, time was short
Lovers roamed through the heather on the hill
The morrows held promises and prospects
Softly they glowed like the morning sunrise

Parce que c'était lui, parce que c'était moi*
She said
It always has been and will always be

When love is short, forgetting is long
Withered petals locked inside the tearful heart
The morrows are empty yesterdays
Morning dews blink of December but never May

Parce que c'était lui, parce que c'était moi*
She says
It always has been and will always be

*Because it was him, because it was me

From Sergei's Ten Easy Pieces

You will come one day in a waver of love,
Tender as dew, impetuous as rain,
The tan of the sun will be on your skin,
The purr of the breeze in your murmuring speech,
You will pose with a hill-flower grace.

The Breeze and You

Come
Let mother Spring's gentle breath
Revive your sere heart and ashen soul
Send your forsaken dreams to where the
Winter perished

Come
Rise up from the fusty plot
Give me your hand
We make music and dance in
Her cleansing rains

Come
Feel her life cherishing sun
A restored heart beats stronger still
It's better to have loved
Than have not loved at all

Come
Hear these ancient words
Love is in the breeze
Be it your desire to ascend again
On wings of song

Tip-Toe Thru' the Tulips with Me

Annette Hanshaw

This MP3 Selection Expired on 04-25-2006:
Tip-Toe Thru' the Tulips with Me
Annette Hanshaw, 1929

Words: Al Dubin
Music: Joe Burke
"Gold Diggers of Broadway" (1929)

Shades of night are creeping
Willow trees are weeping
Old folks and babies are sleeping
Silver stars are gleaming
All alone I'm scheming
Scheming to get you out here my dear

Come tip-toe to the window
By the window that is where I'll be
Come tip-toe thru' the tulips with me

Tip-toe from your pillow
To the shadow of a willow tree
And tip-toe thru' the tulips with me

Knee deep in flowers we'll stray
We'll keep the showers away

And if I kiss you in the garden
In the moonlight will you pardon me
Come tip-toe thru' the tulips with me

(Interlude)

Tip-toe thru' the window by the window
That is where I'll be
Come tip-toe thru' the tulips with me

Tip-toe from your pillow
To the shadow of the willow tree
And tip-toe thru' the tulips with me

Just knee deep in flowers we'll stray
And we'll keep the April showers away

And if I kiss you in the garden
In the moonlight will you pardon me
Come tip-toe thru' the tulips
Tip tip-toe thru' the tulips with me

This MP3 Selection Expired on 04-23-2006:
Pat Boone (1957) - April Love

A Postcard to Henry Purcell

If you are a Jane Austen fan, and have seen the 2005 movie production of "Pride and Prejudice," perhaps you would like to answer the question below. Hint: The composer for the movie score, Mario Marianelli, credited the music for the dance scene between Lizzy and Darcy to Henry Purcell.

What one word would you write down on this postcard to Henry Purcell? (i.e. what is the one-word name of this Purcell composition?)

The first person with the correct answer shall receive an MP3 file of Purcell's setting on the first line of Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night': If Music Be the Food of Love.

This contest may conclude without notification.
