And Fain Would I Call You Mine

The Old Valentine

I sent my sweetheart a valentine on one St. Valentine’s day,
A long time ago, when my hair was brown, ah, now it is sprinkled with grey!
My sweetheart was pretty as she could be, a wild rose bloomed in each cheek,
Her auburn hair rippled down to her waist, her eyes were tender and meek.

And, O, my sweetheart was dear to me, though nobody could have guessed
From my careless glance, or my careless word, the tenderness in my breast.
I sent my sweetheart a valentine, a flowery and foolish thing,
All covered with blue forget-me-nots, and cupids gay on the wing.
Two hearts pierced through, a ruffle of lace, a knot of ribbon, a dove,
And, better than all, a space whereon I could write a message of love;
So burning the midnight oil I wrote with infinite patience and care,
This one earnest verse (for rhyming came hard) to send to my lady fair:
“I love you, I love you with all my heart, And fain would I call you mine,
My Mary, my darling, my beautiful girl,
Let me be your valentine!”

This yellow old page from the book of youth was put in my hand to-day,
As I growled, “Our Tom has fallen in love in a nonsensical way;
He is making a fool of himself—ha! ha! he is writing poetry now,
To his Anna’s lips, and his Anna’s hair, his Anna’s beautiful brow.”

“Why what rubbish is this?” I asked my wife, a portly but sweet-faced dame,
Who smilingly showed me the verse underneath which I had written my name;
Shamefaced, I read it again and again—let me confess to a truth—
I felt like disowning the yellow thing that belonged to the days of youth.

Till I pictured myself an excited lad penning the words of care,
Knowing her answer would fill my heart with rapture or dark despair.
It was yesterday, who says we are old? “I do,” says Mary, my wife,
“But age has nothing to do with it, since the choosing was done for life.”

I bowed my grey head over her hand, “my sweetheart,” I whispered low,
On this Valentine’s day I tender you the verse written long ago.

“I love you, I love you with all my heart,
And fain would I call you mine,
My Mary, my darling, my beautiful girl,
Let me be your Valentine.”

February 2022 Personal Inflation Indice

The national CPI addressed the "average" expense for a basket of goods. The argument is the same for the analogy of not using the "average" national family size of 3.1. Thus national CPI average inflation indice should not apply to every family due to differences in demographics, age, dependents, and etc.

As applied to me, a fine tuning of the national inflation indice was appropriate. I calculated three life-style representative CPI categories. The conclusion for the inflation affect personally was less severely felt.

Here are the three CPI categories compared in February:

  • Food and Beverages (National Inflation Index): 7.6%

    Personal: 2.5%

  • Transportation (National Inflation Index): 21.1%

    Personal: 1.5%

  • Other Goods and Services (National Inflation Index): 5.6%

    Personal (Monthly Bills Only): 3.4%

For My Property Value, Zestimate Is Graded F -

Zillow's property algorithm is a mess. It has its hits and misses. The venerated estate company did not bother to investigate, for exmaple, why my property's SD is ±$50,00 between the summer of 2020 and summer of 2021.

In the preceding year, my house valued the most among the houses on the block. In this year 2021, however, my property value is ranked last on the block by Zillow. Reasons not given.

Case in point, on my neighbor's smaller lot, the house has a poorly constructed leaking patio roof; the house also has peeled exterior paints with exposed trim. These exterior blemishes has existed for many years. Yet Zillow estimated my neighbor's property worth thousands of dollars more than my.

Of coourse, Zillow would not care or know that I have invested $100K in recent years sprucing up my house. It is built on a larger lot than my neighbor's. As Lundquist sums it up in the referenced web below, "Zillow can't smell if twenty cats live there [house]."

Nevertheless, this blogger thinks Zillow is still satisfied with its arm-chair Zestimate algorithm.

Delay in Music and Blog Posting for a Long Spell

It has been a very busy June, ever.

    1. Flea infestation from a neighbor's Butterfly Bush got all contiguous property owners up in arms and scratching their legs. For over a week no one knew from whence the fleas came, not until my gardener found the source on Friday last. This pest problem is now slowly under control, but still on-going.

    2. The power supply on the desktop computer where I did my music and YouTube stuff burnt out. The system is dead. It is not a priority to fix it at this point. Moreover, the reinstalling of the software on the system, when fixed, would be very difficult and resource intensive. At this point, however, I am doing what I can to replicate the music creation stuff on my other computers. It is a slow going process at best, if it could be done at all.

    3. On the week of Summer Solstice, I will be heading over to the Republic of Ireland. The first stop will be the town of Shannon in County Clare.

    So there you have it.

    Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

It has been a very busy first half of the year. Patio lattice work in the spring, a recent cruise to Alaska on the L'Austral; and meanwile, back at the ranch, the kitchen was being remodeled The house inside and in the garage could give Tracy Emin's "My (messy) Bed" sold for $4.4M keen competition.

The kitchen remodeling project is complete. The three combo-photos below show the work that was done from ceiling to floor - all new ceiling LED can lights, soft-close cabinets, US made GE appliances, a granite-acrylinc sink, and quartz countertop and backsplash.

About 9' of the old base cabinets and brass pulls are re-assembled for use as a patio counter. The old florescent lights from the pre-remodeled kitchens will also be installed along with a patio fan. At this point, the housewide Wi-Fi reception at the patio is "good". I could add a Netgear Wi-Fi extender later if needed for the remainder of the backyard.

    Picture of the patio counter.

There are ramnents of large slabs of quartz are left. They will be cut up as stepping-stone and whatnots suitable for use in the gardens.

Meanwile, "back at the ranch", the kitchen remodeling project for this summer is still in progress. The new cabinet tree and applicancs are in place. All is needed -am still waiting before and after the Alaska trip -is for the very busy countertop guys to come and install a new quartz "Green Tea" pattern countertop and backsplash.

My Choice of Apple Watch Model to Order

    My Apple Watch Choice:
A 38mm sapphire glass screen watch with a classic leather band

A local police officer was assigned for security duties inside the Apple Store I visited today. I spotted him using a Samsung! What irony. He sheepishly admitted he would go for an iPhone when his contract expires. After I'd selected the Apple Watch model, I took the opportunity to shoot the breeze with him for a while.

I am holding off on ordering my Apple Watch online today, giving the delivery time for the watch has now been pushed back to between 4 and 6 weeks. If I'd placed an online order today, I might not be able to accept the delivery, as I will be out of town for parts of May and June.

Past and Future Media Postings Are Being Housed at Wix.com

I am in the process of migrating my media contents (i.e. Featured Music, iOS Ringtones, and YouTubes) to Wix.com.

This new web hosting source is an improvement over what I have been using. Wix aids my placing almost all media files in one location in the cloud. It also allows me to expand and contract web content as needed.

The two improvements at my new web site are: 1)all posted iOS Ringtones will be available for download; and 2)all posted YouTubes are gathered in one indexed page for faster user access and navigation.

Boating on the Huntington Harbor, Huntington Beach, CA

Yet another boating excursion; boring (yawn)! And I don't swim!

See me swimming? Love the water.
C'mon in, Precious, the water is nice!

He sat next to me in the Amtrak Business Class northbound from San Diego on Friday, 16 May 2014.

His was and is well known in DC and the space technology community. Can you name him?
