The Waits
Margaret Deland (1919)

At the break of Christmas Day,
Through the frosty starlight ringing,
Faint and sweet and far away,
Comes the sound of children, singing,
Chanting, singing,
“Cease to mourn,
For Christ is born,
Peace and joy to all men bringing!”
Careless that the chill winds blow,
Growing stronger, sweeter, clearer,
Noiseless footfalls in the snow
Bring the happy voices nearer;
Hear them singing,
“Winter’s drear,
But Christ is here,
Mirth and gladness with Him bringing!”
“Merry Christmas!” hear them say,
As the East is growing lighter;
“May the joy of Christmas Day
Make your whole year gladder, brighter!”
Join their singing,
“To each home
Our Christ has come,
All love’s treasures with Him bringing!”

A Psalm for Giving Thanks

Psalm 100
His Steadfast Love Endures Forever
A Psalm for Giving Thanks

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!

2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

A Song of Thanksgiving

Let All Things Now Living
Music: Welsh Tune Ash Grove
Text: Katherine K. Davis (1939)

Let all things now living
A song of thanksgiving
To God the Creator triumphantly raise
Who fashioned and made us
Protected and stayed us
Who guides us and leads to the end of our days
His banners are o'er us
His light goes before us
A pillar of fire shining forth in the night
Till shadows have vanished
And darkness is banished
As forward we travel from light into light

His law He enforces.
The stars in their courses,
The sun in its orbit obediently shine
The hills and the mountains
The rivers and fountains
The deeps of the ocean proclaim Him divine
We too should be voicing
Our love and rejoicing
With glad adoration, a song let us raise
Till all things now living
Unite in thanksgiving
To God in the highest, hosanna and praise

Past and Future Media Postings Are Being Housed at Wix.com

I am in the process of migrating my media contents (i.e. Featured Music, iOS Ringtones, and YouTubes) to Wix.com.

This new web hosting source is an improvement over what I have been using. Wix aids my placing almost all media files in one location in the cloud. It also allows me to expand and contract web content as needed.

The two improvements at my new web site are: 1)all posted iOS Ringtones will be available for download; and 2)all posted YouTubes are gathered in one indexed page for faster user access and navigation.

Trying Out Wix.com

I have been doing my HTML coding for for this blog and music pages for many moons. Since Wix.com offers a HTML 5 free web page constructing and hosting, I decided to give it a try tonight.

The Wix HTML 5 GUI is fairly easy to use. I was also able to embed some custom HTML codes for content enhancement. The more complex HTML coding and some common file types (i.e. txt and csv) are currently not supported, however. Strange and unexpected. The system accepts the Microsoft file extensions as that of PDF, MP3 and other media formats as well. More important, the web server access, editor,and page refresh rates are very responsive. I would have liked having a FTP feature to upload my HTML codes and file contents to the web server and be done with it. Given the business objectives of Wix.com, I understand why FTP was not included. I was able to do 70% of my HTML codes fairly quickly by just using the Wix's web building tools provided.

Overall, the Wix web page builder works as advertised. I highly recommend it for users interested in learning and creating web pages for personal and professional goals.

Autumnal Sky - 20 October 2014

Autumn mornings before sunrise the splendor of the heavens can be seen very clearly. Below is a picture I took this morning of the moon and Jupiter together.

iPhone 5s camera
20 October 2014
0553 hours facing east before sunrise

"Eastward was my glance directed,
Watching for the sun's first rays;
In the south—oh, sight of wonder!
Rose the bright orb's sudden blaze.
Thither was my eye attracted;
Vanished bay and mountain height,
Earth and heaven unseen and all things,
All but that enchanted light." - Goethe, "Faust"

Thou Art Welcome, Heaven's Delicious Breath

October

William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878)

Ay, thou art welcome, heaven's delicious breath,
When woods begin to wear the crimson leaf,
And suns grow meek, and the meek suns grow brief.
And the year smiles as it draws near its death.
Wind of the sunny south! oh still delay
In the gay woods and in the golden air,
Like to a good old age released from care,
Journeying, in long serenity, away.
In such a bright, late quiet, would that
Might wear out life like thee, mid bowers and brooks,
And, dearer yet, the sunshine of kind looks,
And music of kind voices ever nigh;
And when my last sand twinkled in the glass,
Pass silently from men, as thou dost pass.

On Jazz Vocalist Rebecca Kilgore's Birthday

24 September was jazz singer Rebecca Kilgore's birthday.

Because of the Apple iOS 8.x updates and the unexpected wrinkles with it and the associated developer apps, I have had to do a number of things to get all my iOS devices in working order. I did not get around to do this posting on her birthday.

Anyway, here is the music video post - three days behind. Enjoy.

Stuck in the iOS 8.0.1 Failed to Install Twilight Zone?

All of my pre-iPhone 6 iOS devices (iPhone 5s and 4s) were updated to iOS 8.0.1 without problems. Apple, however, did pull the platform update during my iPad Mini-Retina installation. It left a red herring message saying to the effect the update could not be completed because the Internet was not connected.

If you are experiencing the same problem which I'd encountered with the iPad Mini iOS 8.0.1 install process, don't mess with your internet router and settings. Most important, don't panic and go restoring your iOS 8.0 via iTunes. The prior updated iOS 8.0 is still working on the installed device.

To rid the "stuck" iOS 8.0.1 installation file, do these steps instead.

On your iOS 8.0.1 stuck-during-install devices, do the following:

Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage >select the first app on the top which is the iOS 8.0.1 update file > Delete.

If you have already updated to 8.0.1 on your iPhone 6 which had messed up your cellular calling services and Touch ID, do a search on Google for help. I recommend the affected user go directly to the Apple Knowledge Base for a temporary fix at:

Click here: Loss of Cellular Service or Ability to Use Touch ID
after Updating to iOS 8.01 on iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

In Silence Now the Purpling Summer Passes

August
Clark Aston Smith
(1893-1961)

In silence now the purpling summer passes,
The swallows fly;
The failing river scantly glasses,
Where amber twilights wane,
Our dreaming kiss above the flow'rs that die...

Will love at last remain?
Ever I pray to find
(Though all the heav'ns be blind!)
The gold of love and summer in thy hair;
And breathe between thy shadowy breasts again,
In eves of autumn wind,
All flowers that failed upon a windless air.

Comes Blue-eyed Summer Like a Girl Along

SUMMER

MADISON CAWEIN
(1903)

I

Hang out your loveliest star, O Night! O Night!
Your richest rose, O Dawn!
To greet sweet Summer, her, who, clothed in light,
Leads Earth's best hours on.
Hark! how the wild birds of the woods
Throat it within the dewy solitudes!
The brook sings low and soft,
The trees make song,
As, from her heaven aloft
Comes blue-eyed Summer like a girl along.

II

And as the Day, her lover, leads her in,
How bright his beauty glows!
How red his lips, that ever try to win
Her mouth's delicious rose!
And from the beating of his heart
Warm winds arise and sighing thence depart;
And from his eyes and hair
The light and dew
Fall round her everywhere,
And Heaven above her is an arch of blue.

III

Come to the forest, or the treeless meadows
Deep with their hay or grain;
Come where the hills lift high their thrones of shadows,
Where tawny orchards reign.
Come where the reapers whet the scythe;
Where golden sheaves are heaped; where berriers blythe,
With willow-basket and with pail,
Swarm knoll and plain;
Where flowers freckle every vale,
And beauty goes with hands of berry-stain.

IV

Come where the dragon-flies, a brassy blue,
Flit round the wildwood streams,
And, sucking at some horn of honey-dew,
The wild-bee hums and dreams.
Come where the butterfly waves wings of sleep,
Gold-disked and mottled over blossoms deep;
Come where beneath the rustic bridge
The green frog cries;
Or in the shade the rainbowed midge,
Above the emerald pools, with murmurings flies.

V

Come where the cattle browse within the brake,
As red as oak and strong;
Where far-off bells the echoes faintly wake,
And milkmaids sing their song.
Come where the vine-trailed rocks, with waters hoary,
Tell to the sun some legend or some story;
Or, where the sunset to the land
Speaks words of gold;
Where ripeness walks, a wheaten band
Around her hair and blossoms manifold.

VI

Come where the woods lift up their stalwart arms
Unto the star-sown skies;
Knotted and gnarled, that to the winds and storms
Fling mighty rhapsodies:
Or to the moon repeat what they have seen,
When Night upon their shoulders vast doth lean.
Come where the dew's clear syllable
Drips from the rose;
And where the fire-flies fill
The night with golden music of their glows.

VII

Now while the dingles and the vine-roofed glens
Whisper their flowery tale
Unto the silence; and the lakes and fens
Unto the moonlight pale
Murmur their rapture, let us seek her out,
Her of the honey throat, and peachy pout,
Summer! and at her feet,
The love of old
Lay like a sheaf of wheat,
And of our hearts the purest gold of gold.

Setting: In the Wazir's palace

The Poet: Robert Merrill (Baritone)
Marsinah: Adele Leigh (Soprano)

In the Wazir's Palace, Room #2
Wazir & Caliph:
Wazir: Ian Wallace (Bass)
Caliph: Kenneth McKellar (Tenor) (His birthday: 23 June)

THE POET:
You'd say his eyes were...?

MARSHINAH
Some time bright.

THE POET
But only sometime?

MARSHINAH
Often dark.

THE POET
Well, that is plain!

MARSHINAH
Plain words can't tell the thrill!

THE POET
Then tell it how you will!

MARSHINAH
Dawn's promising skies
Petals on a pool drifting
Imagine these in one pair of eyes
And this is my beloved!

WAZIR
You'd say her eyes were...?

CALIPH
Sometime bright.

WAZIR
But only sometime?

CALIPH
Often dark.

WAZIR
Not very clear!

CALIPH
Mere words cannot convey!

WAZIR
Then try another way.

CALIPH
Strange spice from the south,
Honey through the comb sifting,
Imagine these on one eager mouth,
And this is my beloved!

THE POET
You'd say his smile was...?

MARSHINAH
Sometime gay.

THE POET
But only sometime?

MARSHINAH
Often sad.

THE POET
Sad smiles are strange!

MARSHINAH
He can be very strange...

WAZIR:
This takes imagining!

THE POET
So?

MARSHINAH
I hope he'll never change!

WAZIR:
And when she speaks?

CALIPH
Ah...

THE POET
And when he talks to you?

CALIPH
Music!

MARSHINAH
Ah...

WAZIR
Music?

MARSHINAH
Mystery!

THE POET
Mystery?

WAZIR
And when she moves?

The POET
And when he walks with you?

CALIPH, then MARSHINAH
Paradise, comes suddenly near!
All that can stir,
All that can stun,
All that's for the heart's lifting;
Imagine these in one perfect one.

THE POET
It's clear, it's love!
I'll find your love!
I promise you I will!
Those eyese should never cry!
With all my heart I'll try!

WAZIR
I fear this love!
All Highest One
I offer so much more!
Hopeless!
For ev'ry man there's more than one!
We'll wait!

CALIPH, then MARSHINAH
And this is my beloved!

Interlude: The Mantovani trademark strings
(The Poet leaves, and the Caliph and Wazir also leave their room.)

MARSHINAH
Strange spice from the south,
Honey through the comb sifting,
Imagine these on one eager mouth,
And this is my beloved!
And when he speaks
And when he talks to me...
Music! Mystery!
And whe he moves
And when he walks with me
Paradise comes suddenly near!
All that can stir,
All that can stun,
All that for the heart's lifting;
Imagine these in one perfect one.
And this is my beloved!
And this is my beloved!

Brazen Area Code (202) Scam Calls for Money

Just this month, I received two cold calls threatened me with arrest if I did not make a settlement on some IRS matters. Both calls were left on my voice mail. The first call was made by a male East Indian "IRS officer" with a heavy accent who barely spoke understandable English. I deleted that message. The second call was made a week later by a computerized female who articulated well in spoken English. It warned me not to ignore the call. Then it left a number for me to call back. The call-back number was 202 506 9529.

Scammers pretending to be IRS or DEA agents are making cold calls to commit fraud against law abiding US citizens or immigrants. The scam is the threat of immenent arrest if alleged "unreported income" are not paid. The prospective victims are warned not to ignore the call, and he is given an area code 202 number to call back, or press "1" to connect to an agent to resolve the question at hand by negotiating a settlement.

All such calls and call-back numbers are purportedly made from the Washington DC with area code 202. The scammers are trying to create the impression the calls are authentic and serious because they are originated from Washington DC, the federal government hub. If an intended victim calls back to a referred 202 area code number, he already has one foot in the snare by starting with paying for the long distance call to DC.

What the prospective victim did not know is all these area code 202 numbers are connected through phone cards' access numbers. That is, these are pre-paid mobile phone booths where the scammers' own phone numbers are not traceable by ordinary means.

Here is a fact you can take to the bank (pun): No bureaucracy can function without paperwork including a referenced case number. Further, bona fide federal agencies such as IRS or DEA do not make cold calls by hashing out a negotiated amount of money to "make things right."

Here is the link where the all federal government agency contact information including area code 202 phone numbers, if applicable, are listed

http://www.usa.gov/Site-Index/index.shtml

The thing to do is ask the calling "officer" to confirm his or her name, position, and the represented agency. Don't forget to ask for your case case number AND to have that caller send you an official letter stating he or she has talked with you on the phone about the referenced case number. And toward the end of the conversation (which you should be in control through out), tell that crook, "this conversation is being recorded for obvious legal reasons." Tell that person, you will call the agency to follow-up on "your case". Then disconnect the call.

By the way, the scammers had used the same call-back phone number (202 506 9529) on other people before me.

À Toi la Gloire (Thine Be the Glory)

À Toi la Gloire (Thine Be the Glory)

Words: Edmond L. Budry, 1884
Tr.: Richard B. Hoyle, 1923.
Music: G.F. Handel,
Chorus of "See, the Conqu'ring Hero Comes"
from the Oratorio "Judas Maccabaeus" (HWV 63), 1747

Thine be the glory, risen, conqu’ring Son;
Endless is the victory, Thou o’er death hast won;
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave clothes where Thy body lay.

Refrain
Thine be the glory, risen conqu’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
Lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
Let the Church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing;
For her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting.

Refrain
Thine be the glory, risen conqu’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life;
Life is naught without Thee; aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conqu’rors, through Thy deathless love:
Bring us safe through Jordan to Thy home above.

Refrain
Thine be the glory, risen conqu’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

All in the April Evening

This Thursday evening, the Bible recorded Jesus celebrated His Last Supper with the disciples. Later on this same night, He went to Gethsemane and prayed three times that the Father's will be done. Then He was arrested. Jesus was crucifixion on Friday. His resurrection was on Sunday next. Thus, through death and resurrection, Jesus secures both the spiritual life and future resurrection of all who believed.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16 KJV)

Sir Hugh Roberton (1874-1952) wrote a four-voice and piano accompaniment setting, "All in An April Evening" to Irish poet-writer Katharine Tynan Hinkson's poem, "Sheep and Lambs."

Royal Ballet Sinfonia (1999)
Orchestral arrangement:
- All in the April Evening (Hinkson, arr. Lane)

Sheep and Lambs
Katharine Tynan Hinkson (1861 - 1931)

All in the April evening
April airs were abroad;
The sheep with their little lambs
Passed me by on the road.

The sheep with their little lambs
Passed me by on the road;
All in the April evening
I thought on the Lamb of God.

The lambs were weary and crying
With a weak, human cry.
I thought on the Lamb of God
Going meekly to die.

Up in the blue, blue mountains
Dewy pastures are sweet;
Rest for the little bodies,
Rest for the little feet.

But for the Lamb of God,
Up on the hill-top green,
Only a cross of shame
Two stark crosses between.

All in the April evening,
April airs were abroad;
I saw the sheep with their lambs,
And thought on the Lamb of God.

Setting Sun, and Flowers, and Sundial! Oh, My!

It was one of those rarest of rare "Oh, my!" photo opportunities. Here is an iPhone 5s picture capturing that fleeting moment in the garden earlier on this April evening.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

An Unexpected But Very Welcome Visitor

This VIP (Very Impromptu Papilionidae)graced the garden today. The Swallowtail came by unannounced-will they ever?-this afternoon. It did a complete floral inspection on the 'Declaration' Lilac shrub. She was well pleased with the findings and rewarded the host by posing for some photography.

Return of Spring

"Behold, how Spring appearing,
The Graces send forth roses;
Behold, how the wave of the sea
Is made smooth by the calm;
Behold, how the duck dives;
Behold, how the crane travels;
And Titan shines constantly bright.
The shadows of the clouds are moving;
The works of man shine;
The earth puts forth fruits;
The fruit of the olive puts forth.
The cup of Bacchus is crowned,
Along the leaves, along the branches,
The fruit, bending them down, flourishes."

--Henry David Thoreau

Migration Plan to Cloud Computing Complete

Microsoft has officially notified me it will no longer support Windows XP on 8 April 2014. Since January I have been devising a workflow plan of weaning document production and storage on my Windows XP units.

As of this writing, the planned migration away from the Microsoft platform to Apple devices and the cloud storage are complete and operational. This plan also involved some fine-tuning of the extant Google services Gmail and Google Drive.

Macro highlights of the changes put in practice are as follows:

  • Reduce the use of Google's 15 Gb storage for all its apps to 2.5% or less:
    • Set Gmail account as same sender at a free 1TB Yahoo Mail account
    • Set auto-forward of Gmail newly sent and received email to Yahoo Mail account
    • Set auto-delete of newly sent and received Gmail
    • Set auto Google Drive script to send all old Gmail conversations to the Yahoo Mail account.
    • Extract Gmail attachments (jpg, pdf, mp3, mp4, and etc.) and upload them to cloud storage
    • Set up option to redirect Google Drive files to Box's 50 Gb free storage.
    • Clean-up Google Drive for use as a cloud "spare tire" or reserve.

  • Migrate Widows Office Suite files from the Windows XP SD to the cloud
    • Set up free CloudOn Microsoft 2010 Office Suite linked to Google Drive and Box
    • Migrate all applicable all blog music, xml, and html to the cloud
    • Set up iOS devices' Numbers and Pages apps to "Open in..." cloud services

  • Migrate Media Files from the Windows XP SD to the cloud
    • Set up iOS devices to do file and folder tasks (e.g. make, rename, delete, move, and 'open in...')
    • Set up iOS devices upload to the cloud directly including file compression
    • Set up iOS devices download from the cloud including file decompression
    • Set up iOS devices by-passing iTunes to import and export media files
    • Index and manage all media file uploads to the cloud
    • Create primary and secondary WebDav servers on all iOS devices for file sharing
